Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe Celebrates Historic Milestone with Opening of Community Pharmacy in Roseburg
ROSEBURG, Ore. — The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians celebrated a milestone in community healthcare Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Cow Creek Health & Wellness Pharmacy in Roseburg. The event marks a landmark step in the Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe’s commitment to improving access to healthcare for both Tribal citizens and Douglas County residents.
The ribbon cutting was attended by the Cow Creek Umpqua Tribal Board of Directors, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress and Chris Boice, as well as staff and healthcare providers, who welcomed guests and gave tours of the new facility. This investment marks a significant expansion in integrated community health, as pharmacy access and options have decreased in Roseburg over the past few years. It also continues the Tribe’s commitment to the health and well-being of everyone in the region, by serving Tribal families, employees, and non-Tribal residents alike.
“People in this community have had to drive farther and wait longer for the medicine they need. It is a healthcare crisis, and it has hit many of our families hard,” said Carla Keene, Chairman of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians’ Tribal Board of Directors. “That’s one of the reasons that this pharmacy and our clinics are open to everyone. Cow Creek Health & Wellness is not just for our Tribal members, but for all our neighbors. We open our doors because that is who the Cow Creek Umpqua have always been. We don’t build walls. We build clinics, we build pharmacies, and we open our doors to everyone in the community,” she added.
The Cow Creek Health & Wellness Pharmacy will be a full-service, patient-centered pharmacy open to all members of the public who establish care with Cow Creek Health & Wellness clinics. It offers prescription services for all medication needs, personalized medication consultations, and education on safe and effective medication use. Full pharmacy services will be available to all patients as final operational preparations are completed in the coming days and weeks.
The pharmacy is located on Edenbower Boulevard in Roseburg, sharing a building with the Cow Creek Health & Wellness Clinic. This integrated campus model allows providers, patients, pharmacists, and staff to walk easily between locations for coordinated care and consultations that benefit all patients. A second Cow Creek Health & Wellness Center clinic is in Canyonville, behind Seven Feathers Casino Resort. Over the next few weeks, services will be phased in with the pharmacy fully operational and open to all patients Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Anyone seeking to establish care with Cow Creek Health & Wellness can visit cowcreek-nsn.gov/health to complete a new patient packet form. Patients can also call (541) 672-8533 during business hours to establish care.
For 42 years, the Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe has strived to improve the health of Tribal members and make healthcare more accessible for everyone in Southwest Oregon. In 1984, they hired their first healthcare employee, a nurse who made home visits to Tribal citizens and provided transportation to medical appointments. In 1998, the Tribe opened its first clinic, which occupied half of the current site of the Tribal government offices in Roseburg.
Over the last 28 years, that vision has grown to encompass two community-accessible clinic sites and a Public Health department that provided vaccines and testing for the wider community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
