Cold and Flu Season Are Here: Help Prevent the Spread of Disease

Just a Reminder from Cow Creek Umpqua Public Health

Cold and flu season is upon us. It is everyone’s responsibility to help prevent the spread of illnesses in our communities. Remember that a cold or flu may be mild for some and severe or life-threatening to others. To show respect and care for those around you, please make the choice to stay home if you become ill this cold and flu season.

Please follow these guidelines to help prevent spreading illness:

Stay home if:

  • You have a fever (temperature over 100.4o Fahrenheit).
  • You have nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • You have flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, runny nose, sneezing, shortness of breath, or loss of taste or smell).

Okay to return to public settings:

  • No fever in the last 24 hours without the use of medication.
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea have stopped for 24 hours.

Please remember:

  • You can be infectious for 5-7 days following the first day your symptoms develop.
  • You can also be infectious BEFORE your symptoms begin, so it is important to be extra cautious around elderly, infants and immune compromised individuals if you think you may have been exposed to an illness.

Please wear a mask if:

  • You have any flu-like symptoms.

Hand washing is a critical step to prevent the spread of illness and infection
