Forestry and Natural Resources Talk Restoration

Staff from the Cow Creek Umpqua Tribal Forestry and Natural Resources departments are planning a restoration project on the “East Deadman” forested portion of Tribal lands. This project, called the “Eastside Boundary Restoration Project” intends to thin out overstocked forest stands over several hundred acres.

Not only will this project reduce wildfire risk, but it will enhance the overall health of the forest, diversify wildlife habitat, and enhance water quality. These initial discussions focused around wildlife habitat needs, water quality, forest health, and future forest conditions.

“While everyone on our team brings specific expertise and insights, we are working to incorporate our individual strengths to develop and implement forest activities aligned with meeting the Tribe’s seven-generation vision,” said Jake Gibbs, Deputy Director of Forestry Management.
