Tribal Youth Council Attends UNITY
The Ts’ámx Tap’aálaw Tribal Youth Council (TYC) attended the United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY) Conference in July, hosted in Washington, D.C. this year.
The UNITY Conference gathers Tribal youth from across the country, and features elections, events, workshops, and group sessions where these youth can discuss, collaborate, and learn from one another on issues facing Tribes and communities.
Takelma Language Teacher Learner Elizabeth Bryant hosted a workshop for attendees titled “How do you bring your culture to your Tribal Youth Council meetings?” She and the Cow Creek TYC demonstrated cultural games, and modern games with a cultural or language twist.
The TYC also attended the UNITY gala, and visited local sites, such as the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Washington, Lincoln, WWII, Manifest Destiny, and Martin Luther King Jr. monuments.
