Cultural Resources Blesses Tiny Home Given to Tribal Veteran

Operation Tiny Homes (OTH), a nonprofit organization that provides small homes and workshops on building them, gifted a tiny home to Vicky Washington, a US Army veteran and member of the Lummi Nation in the state of Washington. Cow Creek Cultural Resources staff participated in the ceremony, offering prayers through flute music, Takelma words, and a sage smudge.

The gifting was organized by the Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC), who advise the Veterans Association and Bureau of Indian Affairs on the needs of Tribal veterans across all 50 states. The ceremony was held at the end of a three-day long TAC conference, attended by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough.

“We…want to express our deepest appreciation to Jesse Jackson and members the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians for their remarkable participation in leading a touching Tribal blessing of the home during our gifting ceremony,” OTH stated on their Facebook page. “Your presence and contribution made the event all the more special.”
